Why EMPTECH

For more than two decades, EMPTECH has focused on the secure document industry, with sustained investment in R&D and project delivery across personalization equipment, issuance systems, and related technologies. Across key stages from data capture to data preparation, our project experience shows that portrait image quality is not merely an image-processing issue, but a critical part of the secure document issuance chain.

In real projects, ID photo quality issues often extend far beyond whether a photo looks acceptable. They can delay review, slow issuance, affect downstream verification, and create risks for long-term archival use. Even in controlled environments, small differences in lighting, framing, operator practices, and review criteria can lead to inconsistent output. In self-service, mobile, and distributed capture scenarios, maintaining consistency becomes even more challenging.

Today, EMPTECH products have been deployed in more than 60 countries and regions. This global footprint has given us practical experience across diverse operating environments, where differences in clothing, head coverings, cultural or religious requirements, and workflows can make ID photo standards more difficult to apply consistently. In response, EMPTECH has developed a pragmatic approach that combines an international standards baseline with localized rule configuration. We focus not only on compliance with ICAO, ISO, and other relevant international standards, but also on applying those standards consistently across different projects.

This is why EMPTECH is well positioned to deliver this capability. Our experience shows that ID photo quality is both a standards issue and an operational issue, requiring not only algorithmic capability but also engineering experience and a strong understanding of business workflows. This understanding has enabled us to translate project experience into practical, scalable capabilities.
